TIPS4PED
TIPS4PED aims to empower municipalities to create Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) using a cutting-edge digital twin platform.
Cities currently face significant obstacles in implementing broad decarbonization strategies due to lacking technical expertise, robust monitoring and evaluation systems, and streamlined access to financing. Furthermore, the complexity of urban systems and inadequate citizen engagement hinders the development and implementation of effective plans.
TIPS4PED addresses these challenges by creating an Integrated Assessment Platform (IAP) which leverages digital twins (DTs) to model and optimize PED development. The IAP provides municipalities with data-driven decision-making tools, incorporating energy, mobility, social, financial, regulatory, and administrative perspectives.
The platform will enable municipalities to simulate various scenarios, create actionable decarbonization roadmaps, and understand the socio-economic impact of their interventions. This user-centric approach fosters collaboration between city planners, stakeholders, and citizens, placing them at the core of the climate neutrality action.
AI and machine learning algorithms are incorporated to enhance data analysis, model calibration, and optimize PED operation. Open standards will ensure interoperability and collaboration across different platforms and data sources.
The 42-month TIPS4PED project, from june 2024 to June 2028, will be demonstrated in a real-world environment, initially focusing on Turin, Italy (Light House city) as a primary test site. Three follower cities—Cork (Ireland), Kozani (Greece), and Budapest (Hungary)—will then replicate the approach, creating their own digital twins and tailored decarbonization pathways.
FACTUAL’s role in TIPS4PED
- WP1 (Project Requirements and Data Frameworks): FACTUAL contributes by developing a data framework focused on urban and building data standardisation.
- WP2 (Energy and Mobility Services): They work on technical modules for master planning in energy and mobility for Positive Energy Districts (PEDs).
- WP4 (Social Engagement and Learning Tools): FACTUAL aids in building stakeholder engagement strategies and enhancing learning tools.
- WP6 (Communication and Policy Support): Their role includes analysing policy and facilitating stakeholder dialogue for the replication of TIPS4PED results.
